Description

  • The VDI Administrator will be responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and support of the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) at a Texas state agency. This role requires expertise in VMware Horizon View, vCenter, vSphere, Windows Server, Active Directory, and networking concepts. The administrator will ensure system security, performance optimization, user access management, and disaster recovery readiness.
  • Key Responsibilities:
  • VDI Infrastructure Setup & Maintenance – Implement and manage virtual desktops, server/storage systems, and ensure system performance.
  • User Access & Management – Configure role-based access and profile management.
  • Performance Monitoring & Issue Resolution – Troubleshoot, optimize, and ensure minimal disruptions.
  • Innovation & Research – Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements.
  • Documentation & Training – Maintain documentation and train service desk staff.
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery – Participate in planning and implementation.
  • On-Call Support – Provide after-hours support when required.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field (or equivalent experience).

 

Experience:

  • 4-5 years with Virtualization Technologies (VMware Horizon View, vCenter, vSphere).
  • 4-5 years in VDI deployment & management (VM provisioning, image management).
  • 2-3 years in Windows Server Administration, AD, GPO, networking.
  • Experience with profile management, storage technologies (SAN/NAS), and automation (PowerShell, scripting) preferred.

 

Preferred Certifications:

  • VMware Certified Professional - Desktop & Mobility (VCP-DTM)
  • MCSE, CompTIA Server+, Security+
