Position Overview:
The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) is seeking a motivated and skilled SQL Server and Database Administrator to provide comprehensive support across all PDE applications and SQL Server environments. The successful candidate will work both independently and collaboratively with database administrators, developers, and infrastructure teams to ensure the stability, performance, and security of critical database systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and manage Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2019 databases
  • Install and configure database software
  • Design and review logical and physical data models
  • Support the full application system development life cycle
  • Perform data analysis, correction, and migration across systems
  • Migrate and optimize stored procedures for performance improvements
  • Develop and maintain SSIS packages and PowerShell scripts
  • Monitor and tune database performance and storage utilization
  • Ensure data security, integrity, and appropriate access controls
  • Manage and verify database backups and recovery processes
  • Assist in SQL Server version upgrades and infrastructure improvements
  • Follow and help enforce PDE database standards and best practices
  • Utilize Azure DevOps for source control, documentation, and time reporting
  • Communicate effectively with team members, application leads, and project managers
  • Provide timely status updates and anticipate potential issues
  • Represent DBA staff in status meetings as needed
  • Stay current with new SQL Server features and related technologies; make recommendations for adoption
  • Serve as backup to the Chief of Database Administration as required

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience with SQL Server administration and support
  • Strong knowledge of database structures, performance tuning, and security
  • Proficiency in SSIS, PowerShell, and data migration techniques
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps or similar tools for project tracking and version control
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience supporting large, complex databases is highly preferred
