Solutions Engineer

Rocket Software is looking for a highly capable and experienced Senior Customer Solutions Engineer to join our Professional Services team specializing in Rocket Zena, our workload automation and orchestration platform for hybrid and distributed IT environments. This role involves implementing, configuring, and optimizing Zena to meet complex enterprise automation needs. You will work closely with clients to design, deploy, and maintain scalable automation solutions while ensuring seamless integration across platforms and applications.

Core Technical Skills

• Deep understanding of job scheduling concepts: dependencies, triggers, calendars, time zones, and resource management.
• Knowledge of batch processing and event-driven workload execution.
• Rocket Zena Architecture
• Familiarity with Zena components: Zena Master, Zena Agent, Zena Console/UI, and Zena Server.
• Understanding the communication and data flow between components.
• Job and Workflow Design
• Designing and configuring workflows, job streams, and multi-platform job dependencies.
• Use of variables, parameters, and conditional logic in job definitions.
• Scripting and Command-Line Interfaces
• Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Shell, PowerShell, Python) for job automation.
• Familiarity with Rocket Zena CLI for automation, deployment, and configuration.

Integration and Interoperability

• Cross-Platform Experience
• Managing job execution across Windows, UNIX/Linux, IBM i, and cloud environments.
• Understanding of how Zena integrates with enterprise systems and APIs.
• Application and System Integration
• Integrating Zena with databases, ERP systems (e.g., SAP), cloud services, and DevOps pipelines.
• Use of REST APIs and other connectors for automated control and event handling.
• Security and Authentication
• Configuring role-based access control (RBAC).
• Experience with LDAP/Active Directory integration and secure communications

• Installing Zena components across distributed environments.
• Setting up agents, defining hosts, and configuring network and firewall rules.

• Working with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into job workflows.

• Creating configuration guides, workflow diagrams, and audit-ready change logs.

• Coordinating across DevOps, infrastructure, and support teams to ensure smooth deployment and operations.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of experience in IT operations or automation engineering roles.

5+ years of experience with workload automation tools, with specific experience in Rocket Zena or similar competitive platforms.

Strong scripting skills in Shell, PowerShell, or Python.

Proficiency in managing jobs across Windows, UNIX/Linux, IBM i, and cloud platforms.

Knowledge of job scheduling concepts, calendars, dependencies, and event triggers.

Experience integrating with enterprise systems, databases, and cloud services.

Familiarity with LDAP, Active Directory, and secure configuration practices.

Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and client-facing communication skills.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience
