Software Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Junior Software Engineer with 3 to 5 years of experience to join our team for a modernization project with the City of Philadelphia. This is a hybrid role requiring local candidates who can work onsite in the city as needed. The ideal candidate will have strong SQL skills and prior experience working on modernization projects.

Key Responsibilities

1. SQL Development:
   • Write, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and database scripts.
   • Analyze and troubleshoot SQL performance issues.
2. Modernization Projects:
   • Contribute to ongoing modernization efforts by migrating, upgrading, or redesigning legacy systems.
   • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure seamless transitions to updated systems.
3. Development Support:
   • Work with Java, .NET, or Python technologies as needed to support the modernization project.
   • Assist in integrating SQL with backend systems and ensuring smooth data flow.
4. Collaboration:
   • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, project managers, and other developers.
   • Provide regular updates on project progress and challenges.

Qualifications

1. Technical Skills:
   • Strong proficiency in SQL development, including query optimization and performance tuning.
   • Experience with relational databases like SQL Server, MySQL, or Oracle.
   • Exposure to Java, .NET, or Python (preferred but not required).
2. Project Experience:
   • Hands-on experience working on modernization projects involving legacy systems.
   • Familiarity with system migrations, upgrades, or redesigns.
3. Soft Skills:
   • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
   • Strong communication and teamwork skills
