The State of Michigan – Department of Transportation (MDOT) is seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to support enterprise application development efforts. This role focuses on building scalable, accessible, and high-performance web applications using Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, Angular, React, and Microservices architecture, while ensuring compliance with ADA accessibility standards.
Design, develop, test, and maintain web-based applications using Java and related technologies.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including business analysts, testers, and UI/UX designers.
Build responsive front-end applications using Angular and/or React.
Develop and consume RESTful microservices.
Integrate back-end components using Hibernate and Spring Data JPA.
Ensure applications meet Section 508 / ADA compliance standards for accessibility.
Participate in code reviews, unit testing, and performance tuning.
Contribute to architecture and design decisions aligned with MDOT’s standards.
Troubleshoot production issues and provide timely resolutions.
Document system architecture, design, and development processes.
9+ years of professional experience in software development using Java.
Strong experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Spring Security.
Hands-on experience in Hibernate and JPA.
Proven expertise with Angular (v8+) and/or React.js.
Experience with RESTful API development and Microservices architecture.
Familiarity with SQL and relational database design (Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL).
Solid understanding of ADA/Section 508 compliance for web applications.
Knowledge of version control systems like Git or Azure DevOps.
Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
Experience working in a government or transportation agency environment.
Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or CI/CD pipelines.
Understanding of DevOps principles and cloud services (e.g., Azure or AWS).
Knowledge of performance monitoring and accessibility testing tools.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered
