Senior COBOL Developer

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior COBOL Developer with expertise in shell scripting and Linux to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the life insurance domain, with a deep understanding of underwriting (UW) processes. This role requires senior-level technical expertise and a proven track record in working with legacy systems, particularly with Micro Focus COBOL and Linux environments.

As a Senior COBOL Developer, you will be responsible for designing, coding, testing, and maintaining COBOL-based applications in a Linux environment. Your ability to work with shell scripts to automate processes and ensure the reliability and performance of the system will be crucial to the success of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop, enhance, and maintain COBOL applications using Micro Focus COBOL in a Linux-based environment.

Write and maintain shell scripts for process automation, system monitoring, and optimization.

Collaborate with business analysts and other team members to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.

Support life insurance underwriting (UW) systems, ensuring smooth and efficient processing of insurance data.

Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex issues within the COBOL applications and Linux environment.

Work with cross-functional teams to design and implement system integrations and enhancements.

Ensure code quality, performance, and security standards are met throughout the development lifecycle.

Participate in code reviews and provide mentorship to junior developers.

Core Technical Skills:

Micro Focus COBOL: Strong expertise in Micro Focus COBOL development, with the ability to write and optimize complex COBOL applications.

Shell Scripting: Advanced knowledge of shell scripting for process automation and system maintenance in a Linux environment.

Linux: Senior-level experience with Linux systems, including system administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
