Description

The Client's Department of Information Technology Services, in collaboration with the Department of Transportation, is seeking an experienced Power BI Technical Lead to shape the organization's data analytics framework. This hands-on technical role involves leading the development of Power BI solutions, establishing architectural best practices, optimizing performance, and mentoring internal teams. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge of Power BI, data modeling, and dashboard/report development, and will guide the strategic evolution of reporting capabilities across the enterprise.


 

Job Responsibilities

Architecture & Design

Collaborate with the Reporting Services Team to define  bestPower BI practices and architectural standards.

Design and document robust Power BI architecture, including semantic models, workspace management, and gateway configurations.

Create testing frameworks and optimize environment for high-performance data visualization.

Establish naming conventions, permissions policies, and strategies for workspace decommissioning.

Educate teams on effective data modeling and troubleshooting methods within Power BI.

Technical Guidance

Provide advanced technical support in the development of Power BI dashboards and reports.

Train internal developers with practical, hands-on exercises to increase platform proficiency.

Leverage DAX and advanced Power BI capabilities to create impactful analytical solutions.

Guide optimization of queries, DAX calculations, and data model design.

Stay current with Power BI feature updates and recommend relevant improvements.

Ensure compliance with data security and accessibility standards.

Development & Implementation

Develop reusable templates and components for consistent Power BI development.

Lead proof-of-concept and pilot implementations for new reporting needs.

Optimize legacy Power BI solutions for improved performance.

Implement automated testing and validation frameworks.

Define development patterns for shared workspaces and external report publication.


 

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Power BI (experience requirements may be offset by education):
  • Master's degree = 3 years’ experience
  • Bachelor’s in Data/Computer Science = 3 years’ experience
  • Associate degree = 4 years’ experience


 

Expertise in:

  • Power BI semantic model development
  • DAX programming and optimization
  • Dimensional modeling
  • Power BI performance tuning
  • Power BI paginated report development
  • Data warehousing and ETL processes
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills
  • Excellent communication skills for translating business needs into data-driven solutions
  • Strong understanding of relational databases and SQL

Preferred Skills

  • Experience on at least two Power BI engagements lasting 6+ months
  • Background as a Power BI Consultant
  • Experience with accessibility standards in BI reporting
  • Familiarity with enterprise reporting in government or transportation domains


 

Certifications

Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (Required)
