Job Description:

The Network Engineer role is to ensure proper network operations so clinicians can accomplish daily clinical patient care and other duties related to networking support in a medical setting. This includes receiving, prioritizing, documenting and actively resolving network issues and requests via incoming electronic ticketing and incoming calls. Problem resolution may involve the use of diagnostics and network diagnostic tools.

 

Job Description:

  • Oversight and technical analysis of incoming networking requests.
  • Troubleshoot advanced hardware issues with routers and switches.
  • Experience w/routers, switches, and network protocols.
  • Experience w/Network Hardware Components (WICs, SFP modules, etc).
  • Deployment of new network hardware as needed.
  • Troubleshooting and quick resolution in a demanding environment.
  • Fully documents problem symptoms and captures all relevant system and application information within the IT knowledge base system.
  • This includes diagramming network topology. Independently resolves most problems/questions that arise, and consults with senior team members or other technical staff only on unusual or especially difficult issues.
  • Recognizes problem issues that affect multiple end users and work with other IT teams to prioritize and solve quickly.
  • Escalate all out of scope issues in adherence of SLA timelines.
  • Take ownership of user problems and follow up the status of problems on behalf of the user and communicate progress in a timely manner.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, and/or 5+ years’ work experience in related field
  • 5+ years of experience with operation and engineering of Network firewall, VPNs, ACLs, and internet egress technologies and hardware platforms Working knowledge of current network topology, TCP/IP network troubleshooting in a WAN/LAN environment, office applications, printing processes, and advanced troubleshooting of routing and switching
  • Proven ability to resolve mechanical/technical problems over the phone with emphasis on troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to identify and communicate trends and work with department leaders to define corrective action
  • Experience working with network protocols (NAT, ACLs, IP/TCP/UDP, SSL VPN, and IPSec VPN)
  • Willingness and ability to be on call when needed

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree or certification in a network related field Knowledge of healthcare information systems and clinical experience
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects Solid interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to cross between technical and non-technical audiences
