Job Summary:

  • The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, managing, maintaining, and supporting the organization's network infrastructure for capital projects.
  • This role is crucial in ensuring the stability, integrity, and integration of networks with different systems and environments.
  • The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to managing network operations.


Tasks for supporting projects will include but are not limited to:

  • Management of IT network devices, includes approximately 8 firewalls, 8 routers, 90 switches
  • Ability to read technical documentation to support installation and configuration of systems
  • Ability to assess environments and provide recommendations on required implementation
  • Design, engineer, and implement network infrastructure modifications using various network protocols under direction/guidance from IT Architects
  • Configure monitoring of network devices by network monitoring systems
  • Support compliance requirements by obtaining evidence on systems
  • Troubleshoot network and devices using various IT applications/tools
  • Create and maintain technical documentation of designs, diagrams, and processes
  • Collaborate and work with various stakeholders for design/procurement/implementation/troubleshooting/decommissioning of IT network devices
  • Work closely with TBC’s IT team to successfully execute projects
  • Scope and procure IT network device hardware according to project design/requirements
  • Use of tools to troubleshoot, organize, label, and run network cables


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field; relevant certifications and extensive experience can substitute for formal education
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in network engineering, preferably in the energy or utility sector
  • Travel or commute to California locations (Pittsburg or San Francisco) regularly for project tasks
  • Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods of time, walk long distances around the substations, and climb ladders to access, manage, and troubleshoot network devices
  • Fluent in English; Ability to clearly communicate (orally and through composition) and document technical issues, thoughts, and solutions
  • Strong understanding and fluent with usage of Microsoft Excel/Visio/Word for documentation, heavy emphasis on Visio to support network drawings/documentation


Preferred Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of networking protocols
  • Proficient in common network monitoring and analysis tools
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with NERC CIP Compliance & Standards
  • Experience working in secure environments and facilities
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of various networking technologies and management tools, e.g.:
    • Dragos
    • PRTG
    • Cisco switches/firewalls
    • Cisco Prime
    • Cisco Client
    • Cisco FMC
    • CheckPoint Firewalls
    • Palo Alto Firewalls
    • Arista network switches
    • Splunk
  • Strong technical experience and knowledge in networking concepts/methodologies
  • Possess a strong work ethic; being accountable, reliable, and maintaining open communications with leaders and team members
  • Must work well with other team members in a group setting
  • Self-motivated and ability to accomplish tasks using existing documentation and limited guidance
