About the Role:
We are looking for a Hardware Design Engineer to lead the design, maintenance, and implementation of HVDC Control and Protection System Cabinets. You will be responsible for creating control cabinet design documentation, interconnection diagrams, and design guides while overseeing system rollout processes. You will collaborate across various engineering disciplines within the HVDC business.
This is a 6-month B2B contract with a possibility of extension. The role requires onsite presence at least three times a week in Stafford, UK.
Key Responsibilities:
Standard Control System Cabinet Design & Maintenance:
- Lead the evolution of standard cabinet designs and associated documentation.
- Manage the release plan for products and supporting standard documentation.
- Review technical queries from manufacturers, clients, and project engineers.
- Ensure standard documentation, including circuit diagrams, BoMs, and test specifications, is project-ready.
- Drive standardization to improve execution efficiency, manufacturing, and site installation.
- Maintain compliance with IEC standards and update designs based on component obsolescence.
Project Control System Configuration & Support:
- Assist project engineers in defining and documenting control system requirements.
- Support project reviews, ensuring compliance with standard configurable designs.
- Provide second-line product support for client queries.
- Collaborate with site engineers to optimize control room layouts, cable routing, and installation processes.
- Assist with cabinet production testing and ensure manufacturing meets quality standards.
- Engage in knowledge-sharing sessions with internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficient in Ebase, Creo Parametric, IM2 document management system, and other design tools.
- Strong understanding of modular and configurable eLumina cabinet hardware design.
- Experience designing industrial control systems with a focus on quality, cost-efficiency, and reliability.
- Knowledge of industrial communication networks (IEC61850, Ethernet-based protocols).
- Understanding of EMC and related design considerations.
- Experience with Digital Control Systems, Substation Automation, and Cybersecurity.
