Financial Analyst

We are seeking a highly motivated and analytically strong R&D Financial Analyst to serve as the key business partner supporting our growing R&D function. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of financial expertise, systems automation experience, and collaborative skills to help drive strategic decisions and streamline budgeting and reporting processes. This role is pivotal in enhancing project-level budgeting, resource planning, and portfolio investment rationalization.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Database Management:

Manage R&D database and project allocation platforms.

Maintain headcount tracking by projects using the Teams app and Adaptive.

Financial Planning & Reporting:

Prepare and analyze monthly budget vs. actuals for operating expenses (OPEX), capital expenditures (CAPEX), and headcount.

Deliver variance analyses and communicate findings to internal finance, business teams, and the Chief of Staff.

Review monthly accruals and apply sound understanding of OPEX and CAPEX accrual processes.

Business Partnering & Forecasting:

Collaborate with functional leaders and Chiefs of Staff for developing annual budgets and ongoing forecasts.

Support department-level planning for expenses, headcount, and flux/variance analysis.

Executive Communication & Presentations:

Create visually compelling quarterly business review (QBR) decks in PowerPoint.

Present financial overviews, risks, and opportunities during internal business reviews.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis (FP&A), particularly in an R&D setting.

Strong business systems understanding and automation process improvements.

Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, stay organized, and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Self-starter with a collaborative mindset and the ability to work across cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Adaptive Insights or similar planning tools.

Background in biotech, pharma, or tech industry with fast-scaling R&D teams.

Familiarity with project portfolio management (PPM) tools
