DB2 DBA Activities details

  • Manage DB2 LUW servers and databases through multiple product lifecycle environments  from development to mission critical production systems 
  • Configure  maintain and automate database servers and processes  including monitoring of system health and performance  to ensure high   levelsperformance  availability  and security 
  • Independently analyse  solve  and correct issues in real time  providing problem resolution end to end 
  • Refine and automate regular processes  track issues  and document changes 
  • Assist developers with complex SQL query tuning using monitoring tools 
  • Provide production support for production processes written in DB2 SQL 
  • Start   Stop of Db2 Databases 
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours 
  • Share domain and technical expertise  providing technical mentorship and cross training to other peers and team members
  • Own the Databases and configuration  know which components consume the data e g  applications etc 
  • Be aware of database dependencies 
  • Experience with Installing Fix packs   Migrating the Databases 
  • Recovery – Full database recovery and roll forward recovery to end of logs for no transaction loss or to specific point in time recovery 
  • Experience in Utilities of Dropped Table Recovery  Redirected Restore Operations 
  • Expertise in Using Export  Import and Load utilities to export and import the data from and to files 
  • DB2 Performance Utilities   REORGCHK  REORG  RUNSTATS 
  • Logging Strategy – Configure database logging for performing hot cold backups 
  • Performance Tuning – Buffer pool tuning  database manager  database configuration parameter tuning for optimal functionality 
  • SQL Tuning using db2advisor and db2explain tools Facility 
  • Troubleshooting Tools – db2diag  db2trace  db2dart  db2support  db2pd 
  • Monitoring Tools – Snapshot monitors and Event monitors 
  • Database Cloning – Across same platform using Redirected Restore  different platform using db2look and db2move

Required Competency Minimum 7-10 yrs  of experience as Database Consultant having experience in   

  •   Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization  PTO   using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  •   Experience with backups  restores and recovery models
  •   Strong knowledge of Clustering  High Availability  HA  and Disaster Recovery  DR  options for DB2 LUW
  •   Strong knowledge of Data Encryption  at rest and in transit  for DB2 LUW
  •   Strong knowledge of DB2 SQL and Sourced Stored Procedures
  •   Knowledge of Toad for DB2 and IBM ***tools
  •   Strong knowledge of Linux and DB2 User Access Security  Groups and Roles
  •   Experience with Data Virtualization  Denodo 
  •   Experience with Database Design
  •   Experience with Autosys Workload Automation
  •   Experience with MS Powershell  Bash  VB Script etc 
  •   Excellent written and verbal communication

 Optional Skill set:  L1, L2 level knowledge in PostgreSQL is highly appreciable
