A senior data developer in this role designs, develops, and optimizes data solutions supporting trading, risk, and post-trade activities for derivatives and broader capital markets businesses. You will leverage your deep expertise in both data engineering and financial products to deliver scalable, high-performance infrastructure and analytics for global banking or buy-side institutions.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build data pipelines and platforms for ingesting, processing, and analyzing large volumes of capital markets and derivatives data (trade, risk, pricing, settlement, and regulatory).
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize databases (SQL and NoSQL) and data models for trading and risk management systems.
  • Collaborate with trading, risk, and IT teams to ensure data accuracy, quality, and integrity throughout the derivatives trade lifecycle.
  • Implement ETL processes, real-time streaming solutions, and data API integrations with internal/external sources.
  • Support and enhance analytics for derivatives pricing, risk calculations, and regulatory compliance reporting.
  • Work closely with quantitative and software engineers to enable model development and deploy analytics for derivatives products (options, swaps, futures, etc.).
  • Maintain documentation, conduct code reviews, and ensure adherence to best practices in data governance and security.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data feeds, ensuring timeliness and reliability of market and risk data.
  • Stay current on technology trends, capital markets regulations, and advances in derivatives markets.

Required Qualifications

  • 12–15 years of total development experience (preferably as Data Developer, Data Engineer, or Quantitative Developer) in capital markets, with a strong focus on derivatives.
  • Advanced programming skills in Python, SQL, and at least one of: Java, C++, or C#.
  • Demonstrated experience working with derivatives products (OTC and listed) and full trade lifecycle (trade capture, risk, margining, clearing, settlements).
  • Hands-on expertise with database technologies (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, NoSQL stores).
  • Experience with building ETL pipelines, managing large-scale market data, and integrating with trading/risk systems.
  • Knowledge of financial data formats (e.g., FpML, FIX), and capital markets data (equities, fixed income, derivatives).
  • Familiarity with modern DevOps practices, version control, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to work with cross-functional teams.

Desired Skills & Attributes

  • Experience supporting cloud-based solutions (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Exposure to data science or machine learning applied to derivatives analytics is a plus.
  • Understanding of compliance and regulatory reporting related to derivatives (Dodd-Frank, EMIR, etc.).
  • Familiarity with risk engines, market data vendors, and financial modeling tools.
  • Proactive attitude, ability to work independently, and mentor junior team members.
