Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance COBOL programs in a mainframe environment.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to understand system requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Perform code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Support batch and real-time processing systems using COBOL, JCL, DB2, and CICS.
  • Participate in system upgrades, data migrations, and integration projects with modern platforms.
  • Document program logic, workflows, and system interfaces.
  • Provide production support and troubleshoot issues in a timely manner.

 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 6+ years of experience in COBOL development within a mainframe environment.
  • Proficiency in JCL, DB2, CICS, and VSAM.
  • Experience with insurance systems (policy, claims, billing) is highly preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

 

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with modernization tools or strategies (e.g., Micro Focus COBOL, API integration).
  • Familiarity with Agile or Waterfall development methodologies.
  • Knowledge of other programming languages (e.g., Java, Python) is a plus
