Application Architect

The State of Wisconsin’s Department of Administration (DoIT) is seeking an experienced Application Architect IV to join the Research Cyberinfrastructure group. This individual will be responsible for supporting the technical operations of the UW-Madison Globus service, including Globus gateways, integrations, and collections, which are interconnected with storage and computing platforms in UW-Madison's research infrastructure.

The selected candidate will serve as the Globus Application Administrator and technical operations lead for the service. The position requires professional experience in supporting and administering Linux-based web applications, utilizing Python, and supporting secure user authentication and authorization management methods.

Top Required Skills & Experience:
5+ years of experience supporting and administering Linux web applications with distributed administration.
Professional experience utilizing coding skills in Python and using a Python Software Development Kit (SDK) to interact with web applications.
Experience supporting applications with user authentication/authorization management methods for secure server connections.
Experience with software development, scripting, or automating workflows using REST APIs for software integrations.
Nice to Have:
Familiarity with network-attached storage protocols like POSIX and Amazon S3.
Experience supporting applications using enterprise Identity Management systems, such as:
Globus/CILogon
UW NetID/SAML/Shibboleth/OIDC
Active Directory/Entra ID
Experience with cloud networking, storage, and user/group management systems like:
Azure Blob Storage
Google Cloud Storage
Familiarity with collaboration platform storage solutions like Google Drive and Box.
ITIL-based IT service management experience.

Job Responsibilities:
Lead technical operations and support for the Globus service within the DoIT Research Cyberinfrastructure group.
Oversee the system of Globus gateways, integrations, and collections connected to UW-Madison's storage and computing platforms.
Ensure that the Globus application supports the research infrastructure effectively, with a focus on security and reliability.
Collaborate with technical teams to automate workflows and improve operational processes.
Manage user authentication and authorization methods to ensure secure connections to servers and systems.
Provide support for software integrations using REST APIs
